DESIGNER: DIGITAL & MARKETING
Summary: Collaborate with our creative, production, sales, marketing and publicity teams to create materials for print, e-book and Web-based platforms.
Duties:
* Conceive and design sales, marketing and publicity materials: ads (print and digital), posters, postcards, buttons, patches, tote bags and other miscellaneous sales and marketing items.
* Conceive and design catalogs for domestic and foreign rights markets.
* Coordinate schedules among departments to ensure timely production and delivery of all sales, marketing and publicity materials.
* Transition existing print layouts for e-book publication and develop original layouts for e-book publication.
* Monitor and provide status updates of e-book publications and other digital publishing initiatives.
* Create and supply a variety of images for the Web.
* Coordinate creation of physical mock-ups for print titles and materials.
* Provide design support for industry trade shows, including signage and booth materials.
* Research and develop innovative formats for digital platforms, including e-book, Web and apps.
* Provide general support for our creative, production, sales, marketing and publicity departments on an as-needed basis.
Qualifications
* Background in publishing, with 1-3 years experience in print/digital design preferred.
* Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite required, with emphasis on InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
* Background in marketing and/or design preferred. Background in book design a strong plus.
* Experience with e-book and app creation a strong plus.
* Exceptional organization skills and the ability to handle multiple projects on deadline.
* Bachelor’s degree required.

PRODUCTION & SALES ASSISTANT
Summary: Assist Production and Sales departments by coordinating publishing materials, files and schedules. Collaborating with our creative and sales teams, vendors, and distribution partners. Managing files, data and workflow.
Duties
* Attend concept meetings to create package specifications for prospective titles.
* Communicate with vendors to convey specifications and establish pricing.
* Create profit and loss statements to assess viability of prospective titles.
* Manage sample materials from initial order to final approval.
* Develop schedules and deadlines for new titles, reprints, and other print/digital materials to ensure smooth workflow and delivery.
* Create and maintain spreadsheets to document workflow, pricing, orders and deliveries.
* Submit purchase orders.
* Traffic files, proofs, books, sales and marketing materials domestically and internationally.
* Coordinate BLADs, ARCs, posters, catalogs, etc. for sales, marketing and publicity needs from concept through delivery.
* Coordinate logistics for domestic and international trade shows, including shipments, supplies, signage, and booth assembly/disassembly.
* Coordinate logistics for industry trade shows, including shipments, supplies, signage, and booth assembly/disassembly.
* Manage data for Quirk and its distribution partners, including title loads, SAP data, ONIX, and TI sheets.
* Generate sales reports.
* Provide general support for the Production and Sales departments on an as-needed basis.
Qualifications
* Strong interest and background in publishing, with 1-3 years experience in production preferred.
* Exceptional organization skills and the ability to handle multiple projects on deadline.
* Knowledge of MS Excel and Adobe Creative Suite is required.
* Knowledge of digital publishing platforms is a strong plus.
* Bachelor’s degree required.

SPRING 2012 MARKETING & PUBLICITY INTERNSHIP
Experience book marketing and publicity at a nontraditional book publisher. Quirk Books, located in Philadelphia’s Old City, is currently seeking an intern for their marketing and publicity department during the Spring of 2012.
Duties:
- Assist with press mailings on a daily basis.
- Write 1-2 press and/or marketing materials with guidance from staff.
- Help create media contact databases.
- Search for new online media contacts.
- Generating web content, i.e. excerpts, quizzes, fun facts, blog posts.
- Copying and filing.
Qualifications:
- English, journalism, marketing, or communications major or interest in major.
- Must be able to put in 9-15 hours per week in at least 3 hour increments—welcome to intern more if available.
- Office experience a plus.
